Opening Statement

This body of work explores the relationship between structure and instinct.

Forms emerge, repeat, and dissolve- moving between contained systems and more fluid gestural states.

Across each piece, mark-making becomes both process and language.

Practice

Working primarily on paper, Read’s practice moves between spatial compositions and densely worked surfaces. Repetition and variation act as a structural device allowing forms to shift between clarity and fragmentation. The works resist fixed interpretation, instead suggesting internal systems - maps of thought, movement, or visual memory.
